From Page Visibility to Brand VisibilityBuilding a Brand Visibility Dashboard and Audit

A minimum measurement system for recognition, organic discovery, prominence, competition, stability, and intent-specific gaps.

A minimum measurement system for recognition, organic discovery, prominence, competition, stability, and intent-specific gaps.

Use a four-layer brand visibility model

Recognition asks whether the AI knows a named brand. Discovery asks whether it appears without being named. Prominence asks how strongly it is positioned. Competition asks how much recommendation space it captures.

These become branded recognition, unbranded mention rate, average position, and Share of Voice.

Keep diagnostic metrics decomposed

A useful dashboard reports unbranded Mention Rate, branded recognition, average position, sentiment distribution, Share of Voice, coverage by prompt family, platform differences, and stability. “GEO Score = 64” cannot explain what needs work.

Start with a disciplined minimum design

Use roughly 30–50 prompts covering discovery, problem/solution, use case, and expert needs; at least three engines; three to five meaningful competitors; and multiple comparable runs. Record mentions, positions, citations, source types, competitors, and reviewable sentiment spans.

Avoid the common measurement failures

Do not test only branded prompts, choose a handful of favorable questions, mix all intents, measure one engine, run once, report only Mention Rate, or combine stable mention with volatile sentiment using unexplained weights.

Reconnect brand gaps to the GEO pipeline

For each weak prompt family, inspect the owned and external pages that establish entity relevance, the engines and sources that surface competitors, and the pipeline stage where the target drops out.

Chapter principle

A brand is visible when AI independently brings it into relevant decisions.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about this topic

What are the four layers of brand visibility?+

Recognition, unbranded discovery, prominence when mentioned, and competitive Share of Voice.

What is a minimum brand GEO prompt panel?+

About 30–50 commercially relevant prompts across several primarily unbranded intent families.

How many engines should a basic audit include?+

At least three materially different engines, measured under documented conditions.

Why should metrics stay decomposed?+

Separate metrics reveal whether the problem is recognition, discovery, position, competition, framing, or stability.

How do brand-level gaps connect to page-level GEO?+

Owned and external pages create the evidence, authority, and source pathways that make brand discovery possible.
